Level Of Detail for Foliage
- prior methods don't apply because leafs often
are a huge number of isolated surfaces
- at a certain distance leaves are not perceived as individual objects,
but as a "mass" with certain transparency and reflection properties
- the foliage can be represented by fewer leaves
- to keep the apparent transparency constant remaining leaves are
scaled while other leaves are gradually removed
- similar to methods used for complexity management in
hair/fur rendering
